DIY kit or professional repair?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

About our bath repair in Fochriw

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. The method changes with the material: metal baths need any rust dealt with first, and acrylic cracks need support from behind. Common call-outs are for a chipped rim or side and a kit repair that didn’t last, across acrylic, roll-top & freestanding and cast iron enamel.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once we have gone.

What we can’t put right

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. Repairs will not solve:

  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Roll-top & freestanding

How it works

Once we’re through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes two to three hours for most chips, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. Chips can rust if left, but the bath itself lasts for generations, which makes it well worth repairing.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Signs you need bath repair in Fochriw

A cracked acrylic bath typically wasn’t supported properly. Legs that are not adjusted, a missing cradle or a soft floor let the bath move until the acrylic gives way.

Get in touch if you’ve noticed:

  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted
  • Holes from dropped items

10 questions to ask before booking

Why repair rather than replace?

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. Repairing it leaves it where it is. Our bath repair starts from £95. The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. You will see the full price before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Why book with us

  • One visit for most repairs
  • A fixed quote before you book
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Don’t leave a fresh chip for long
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath, avoiding abrasives.

Do not leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.
