About our bath repair in Gillock

Most of our bath repairs take a few hours, and the bath is back in use the day after. There is no need to book a plumber or tiler, because nothing is disconnected. We’re frequently asked to fix cracks in an acrylic bath and impact holes in acrylic, across acrylic, cast iron enamel and pressed steel enamel.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, just like other baths.

Work for landlords and builders

For anyone letting property in or around Gillock, we’ll quote for several properties at once. Just send pictures for each address and we will price them together.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

Common problems we fix in Gillock

The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Acrylic baths crack for a different reason: the bath is not properly supported, so it flexes under weight.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • A failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting
  • A chip where the taps sit
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail

How to compare quotes

How the visit works

On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job usually takes two to three hours for most chips. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

DIY kit or professional repair?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

FAQs for Gillock

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. The old repair comes out first.

Will the repair last?

Yes, if it’s prepared properly and the bath is sound. It carries our one-year guarantee.

Will the price change on the day?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Something went through my bath. Can it be fixed?

Usually, yes, if we can reach behind it. The hole is backed, filled and refinished to match.

Can you redo an old repair?

Yes. We remove the old filler and start again. Tell us about it when you send pictures.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

What we cannot put right

We would rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Repairing versus replacing in Gillock

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Prices start from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Why book with us

  • No extra charge for your area
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Work done at your home or business
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish

Read our prices page and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath without abrasive products.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through until it’s repaired. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.
