Bath repair for Hirst homes

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. Prices are worked out job by job, from your photos. The main factors are:

  • How much damage there is
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The colour and finish to match

Compared with replacing, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Getting a price from pictures

Two or three clear photos are generally enough. Try to include:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • The material, if you know it

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through.

Bath repair in Hirst, done in place

You don’t need a new bath because of a chip. We fill the damage, shape it to the curve of the bath and refinish it, mixing the colour on the day so the repair is hard to spot. We are frequently asked to fix a cracked acrylic bath and a kit repair that didn’t last, across pressed steel enamel, cast iron enamel and acrylic.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, to keep water out. Take it off before we arrive.

Why repair rather than replace?

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. Repairing it leaves it where it is. Prices start from £95. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There’s no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, in much the same way.

Work for landlords and builders

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Send the address, pictures and access details and we will arrange it.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Hirst: your questions answered

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Usually, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one.

Will the repair show?

On a glossy bath, you will struggle to find it. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Which areas do you work in?

Everywhere in the UK, Hirst included. Travel is included in the price.

What happens if you find more damage?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures cannot show what we need.

How long before I can use the bath?

Most baths can be used the following day. We confirm the time before we leave.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes, very often. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

What happens after I send pictures?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote with dates.

How the visit works

On the day, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take a few hours. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

  • A steel bath rusted through
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
