Bath repair in Hoel-laethog, done in place

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. We regularly repair whirlpool & spa baths, cast iron enamel and pressed steel enamel, and common reasons people get in touch are rust spots around the plughole and chips on the rim or sides.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will sort it.

Bath enamel chip by the waste, filled and colour matched (before and after)

Signs you need bath repair in Hoel-laethog

Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On steel and cast iron baths, any chip down to the metal will start to rust.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • Snagging damage from a refit

Our hiring checklist

Should you replace it?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

Why book with us

  • Everything repaired in place
  • Repair technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • A fixed quote before booking
  • Same prices wherever you are

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, just like other baths.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Keeping it looking good

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use

There’s nothing special to do after a repair. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners and give it a rinse after each bath.

A small chip is a quick job. Left alone, they stain and can rust, so it’s worth getting them done early.

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. We don’t charge extra for travel to Hoel-laethog. The price comes down to:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The material
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How many areas need work

Compared with replacing, repairing typically costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Getting a price from pictures

You can typically get a fixed quote without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • The material, if you know it
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Email us a photo of the damage and one of the whole item, with your CF32 postcode, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

How it works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and tidy away. Plan for a morning or an afternoon. Before we go, we will explain how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, normally the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Hoel-laethog questions

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

What happens if you find more damage?

Your quote covers the damage in the pictures. If there is more, we’ll tell you before starting.

What do you need from me?

Send photos through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787, and we’ll do the rest.

How long before I can use the bath?

Normally the following day. We will tell you the exact curing time when we finish.

What happens after I send pictures?

We come back with a fixed price, normally with dates to choose from. You are under no obligation.

Will the repair last?

A properly prepared repair should last a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year. Gentle cleaning helps.

Will you leave a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

When we’d advise against a repair

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath
  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.
