DIY kit or professional repair?
It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.
DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.
How we handle bath repair in Horton
Bath repair is our most common job. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all fixed without removing the bath, typically in a single visit. We work on pressed steel enamel, roll-top & freestanding and acrylic, and common reasons people get in touch are rust spots around the plughole and an old repair that has yellowed or come loose.
The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Looking after it afterwards
After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:
- A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
- Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
- Do not leave a fresh chip for long
- Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine.
If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath until it’s repaired. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.
Why repair rather than replace?
Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and replacing like for like isn’t cheap. A repair keeps it in place. Our bath repair starts from £95. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

What we’re called out for in Horton
Rust usually starts where water sits, by the plughole, beneath dripping taps or in an unrepaired chip. Water on bare metal causes rust that creeps under the surrounding enamel.
Most people contact us when they notice one of these:
- An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
- Impact holes in acrylic
- Chips on the rim or sides
- Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
Questions to ask before you book
- How the colour is matched
- Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
- Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
- How soon you can use it again
For landlords and businesses
Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.
Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send photos with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.
Are there extra charges for Horton?
We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.
Do you repair coloured baths?
Yes. The colour is mixed on site to suit your bath, including older coloured suites.
Can you redo someone else’s repair?
Most of the time. Tell us what was done before.
What happens after I send pictures?
We review the pictures and send a fixed quote.
What if the damage is worse than the photos show?
If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

What affects the price in Horton
Prices start from £95. Each job gets its own fixed price. This is what makes a difference:
- What kind of damage it is
- How easy the damage is to reach
- What the surface is made of
- The colour and finish to match
Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Horton. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.
Quotes from your pictures
Two or three clear photos are usually enough. Try to include:
- What it’s made of, if you know
- Natural light rather than flash
- Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
- A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through.
What your bath is made of matters
Pressed steel
Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, especially around the waste, so repair chips early.
Composite and resin
Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, in much the same way.
