Repairing versus replacing in Lamorna

Many people think a damaged bath means a new one. Generally it does not: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, without the cost and upheaval of replacing it. Our bath repair starts from £95. Compared with replacing, repairing generally costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Lamorna

  • We leave the room as we found it
  • One price list for the whole UK
  • No need to remove anything
  • Normally one visit, start to finish

Bath repair at your home in Lamorna

A damaged bath doesn’t have to mean a new bathroom. We fill the damage, shape it to the curve of the bath and refinish it, mixing the colour on the day. We are often asked to fix scuffs and scratches in the surface and damage done while the bathroom was being fitted, in cast iron enamel, roll-top & freestanding and whirlpool & spa baths.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Lamorna and across Cornwall.

How it works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so there are no surprises. Then the area is sheeted and masked and we start. It normally takes a few hours, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

FAQs for Lamorna

Do you charge for travel?

There’s no separate call-out charge. Your fixed price includes everything.

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes, very often. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We look at the pictures and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

Will the repair show?

On a bath in good condition, a colour-matched repair is very hard to spot. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Yes, we do this often. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Do you work in Lamorna?

Yes, we do. Technicians travel to Lamorna from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.

Can landlords book you?

Yes, frequently. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

When to call us in Lamorna

Acrylic baths that crack nearly always have a support problem. Loose legs, no proper cradle or a floor that gives let the bath move.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • A chip where the taps sit
  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • A cracked acrylic bath

What your quote should include

  • Aftercare advice
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • A fixed quote, and whether VAT is included
  • Who will actually do the work

How to compare quotes

What a repair can’t fix

In fairness, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • A steel bath rusted through
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

What we work on

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There’s no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

Aftercare tips

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine without abrasive products.

A small chip is a quick job. Left alone, they stain and can rust, so it’s worth getting them done early.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The material and finish
  • What kind of damage it is

A repair typically costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Getting a price from photos

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Natural light rather than flash

If you are in Lamorna and want a price, pictures are the quickest way: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.
