Bath repair at your home in Longlands

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. We work on pressed steel enamel, acrylic and roll-top & freestanding, and common reasons people get in touch are snagging damage from a refit and a kit repair that didn’t last.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we’ll come back.

Repair or replace: which is better?

People often assume a cracked or chipped bath has to come out. In most cases it does not: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, without the cost and upheaval of replacing it. Prices start from £95. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Why us?

  • CHAS and Constructionline accredited
  • Everything repaired in place
  • Work done at your home or business
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish

Read our prices page or resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

Keeping it looking good

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath

A repaired bath needs no special treatment, beyond gentle cleaning. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners and give it a rinse after each bath.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so it pays to deal with it early.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, especially around the waste, so early repairs matter.

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. They don’t rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

DIY kit or professional repair?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Longlands: your questions answered

Are you accredited?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Generally within a day, though it depends on what we have done.

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

Will I be able to see the repair?

The goal is a repair that blends in. How well it disappears depends on the condition of the rest of the bath.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, regularly. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

When can you do it?

That depends on our diary for your area. Send pictures with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.

Which areas do you work in?

Everywhere in the UK, Longlands included. Travel is included in the price.

What we do, step by step

There is not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll get on with it. The job generally runs to a few hours, depending on the damage, including clearing up.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can typically use the bath the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

How to get a price

You do not need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.
