How we handle bath repair in Lower Town

Bath repair is our most common job. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all fixed without removing the bath, typically in a single visit. Typical jobs include damage done while the bathroom was being fitted and damage beneath the taps, in acrylic, whirlpool & spa baths and cast iron enamel.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

When we would advise against a repair

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel

The process

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, do the job and tidy away. Plan for a few hours from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. Once it has cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready to use.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

Advice

Different materials, different repairs

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, in much the same way.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Chips rust quickly on steel, especially around the waste, so repair chips early.

Questions from Lower Town

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Just keep them out of the work area. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

What do you need from me?

Photos of the damage, a photo of the whole bath and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Yes. We remove the old filler and start again. Tell us about it when you send photos.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.

What areas do you cover?

We work UK-wide, and that includes Lower Town. Our prices are the same everywhere.

How long before I can use the bath?

Most baths can be used the following day. We confirm the time before we leave.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Normally. Send us a picture of the hole and one from under the bath if you can.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Make sure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use

Don’t leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. And fix dripping taps promptly.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, so water cannot get in. Remove it before the repair.

What we’re called out for in Lower Town

Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On steel and cast iron baths, any chip down to the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • A chipped rim or side
  • Chips under the taps
  • Chips caused by builders

What your quote should include

  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • What preparation is included
  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?

Our hiring checklist

Landlords, agents and businesses in Lower Town

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, photos and access details.

Repairing versus replacing in Lower Town

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, a new panel is often needed, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. Repairing the damage avoids all of that. Prices start from £95. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

What you get with us

  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Same prices wherever you are
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • Colour mixed on the day to match

DIY kit or professional repair?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.
