Bath repair in Middlemarsh

Middlemarsh: your questions answered

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Will the price change on the day?

The price is fixed for what the pictures show. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes, very often. We take it back to sound metal, seal it, fill it and match the colour.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Regularly. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

Will there be a smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work.

Something went through my bath. Can it be fixed?

In most cases. Photos of the hole and the underside help us check.

Is a bath repair durable?

Done properly, a repair lasts for years, and ours come with a one-year guarantee. Gentle cleaning helps it last.

How we handle bath repair in Middlemarsh

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, while cracks in acrylic grow each time the bath moves. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. Typical jobs include hairline or through cracks in acrylic and holes from dropped items, on roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and pressed steel enamel.

All our work comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Dorset.

Honest limits

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What we work on

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

DIY kit or professional repair?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

What happens on the day

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you’re not left guessing. On site, it takes two to three hours for most chips in most cases. The room is left tidy and you’ll know when it can be used.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, usually the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

Advice

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted

Don’t leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, to keep water out. Remove it before the repair.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We look at:

  • How much damage there is
  • The type of damage
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Unusual colours or finishes

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Getting a price from photos

Phone photos are fine, there is no need for anything special. Just make sure we can see:

  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Any details about the material
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Details of any past repairs

A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the entire bath, add your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

Should you replace it?

A new bath costs more than the bath itself: removal and disposal, plumbing, a new panel, tiling and decorating. A repair is one job, done in one visit. Prices start from £95. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.
