Aftercare tips

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Don’t scrub with anything abrasive
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating

A repaired bath needs no special treatment, just sensible cleaning. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

How the visit works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. It generally takes two to three hours for most chips, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

DIY kit or professional repair?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Work for landlords and builders

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in North Green as well as homeowners. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a fitted bath normally involves a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the tiles and panel and getting rid of the old bath. Repairing it fixes just the damaged area in a single visit. Our bath repair starts from £95. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.

When a repair isn’t the answer

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.

Common questions in North Green

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before and we will plan for it.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We come back with a fixed quote. You’re under no obligation.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

When can I have a bath again?

Generally within a day, though it depends on what we have done.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.

What information do you need?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

How do I get a price for bath repair in North Green?

Prices start from £95. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You will get a fixed figure before booking.

Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?

Often, if there is access underneath. We back the hole, fill it and refinish the surface.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

What we’re called out for in North Green

A bath gets knocked about more than you’d think: everyday items get dropped into it all the time, and taps and wastes are tightened against the surface. Over time, chips and rust spots are almost inevitable.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • A chip where the taps sit
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • Rust by the waste and overflow
