Different materials, different repairs
Acrylic
An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.
Cast iron
Cast iron is heavy and rigid, with a fused enamel surface. Chips can rust if left, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.
How we handle bath repair in Ouston
Most of our bath repairs take a few hours, and the bath is back in use the following day. You will not need a plumber or tiler, because nothing is disconnected. We work on roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel, and the jobs we see most are a cracked acrylic bath and damage beneath the taps.
All our work comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in County Durham.

The process
On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take two to three hours for most chips. We clean up when we are done and let you know when you can use it again.
- Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
- The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
- Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
- We match both the colour and the shine.
- We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.
Before we arrive
- Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
- Clear the area around the damage
- Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Advice
Repairing versus replacing in Ouston
If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and you keep the bath you chose. If the entire surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we will tell you. Our bath repair starts from £95. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

How to look after the repair
Once the work has cured, treat it gently:
- Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
- Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
- Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
- Do not leave a fresh chip for long
Don’t leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. And fix dripping taps promptly.
Small chips are quick to repair. Leave them and they collect dirt, stain and, on metal baths, rust, so early repair saves time and money.

Should I try a DIY kit first?
What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.
