How we handle bath repair in Pillerton Priors

We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. The method changes with the material: metal baths need any rust dealt with first, and acrylic cracks need support from behind. We work on pressed steel enamel, roll-top & freestanding and whirlpool & spa baths, and the jobs we see most are snagging damage from a refit and chips on the rim or sides.

You’re covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

How the visit works

You do not need to empty the room. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. It normally takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. Once it has cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready to use.

Before we arrive

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

How to get a price

There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Advice

When we would advise against a repair

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

What we work on

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. There is no area surcharge for Pillerton Priors. What changes the price is:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The type of damage

Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

Send photos for a quote

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A picture taken from further back
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is simple:

  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

A small chip is a quick job. Leave them and they collect dirt, stain and, on metal baths, rust, so early repair saves time and money.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, which makes it well worth repairing.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, just like other baths.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

Should you replace it?

Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and replacing like for like is not cheap. Repairing it leaves it where it is. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Pillerton Priors. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.
