Bath repair in Reay, done in place

Bath repair is our most common job. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in one visit. If you’re dealing with a cracked acrylic bath and snagging damage from a refit, we can typically put it right.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

How to care for the repair

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through until it’s repaired. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

What happens on the day

Arrival times are agreed in advance. On site, it takes a few hours in most cases. The room is left tidy and you will know when it can be used.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

Advice

Questions from Reay

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes. We remove the old filler and start again. Tell us about it when you send pictures.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Frequently, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Check under the bath panel, or send us a picture.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes. The colour is mixed on site to suit your bath, including older coloured suites.

How invisible is a bath repair?

On a glossy bath, you’ll struggle to find it. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Do the materials smell?

Expect a mild smell while we are working that clears as it cures.

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

What areas do you cover?

We cover the entire UK, including Reay and the rest of Highland. Just include your postcode and we will offer you dates.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Reay

For anyone letting property in or around Reay, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send photos for each one and we’ll price them together.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Reay as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

What we are called out for in Reay

Most bath damage comes from something dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On enamelled baths, a chip that reaches the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Chips caused by builders
  • A chip where the taps sit
  • A kit repair that didn’t last
  • Rusty patches near the plughole

How to compare quotes

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, in much the same way.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Repairing versus replacing in Reay

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. A repair keeps it in place. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Honest limits

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.
