Bath repair near Sadberge

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Bath repair in Sadberge, done in place

A repair fixes just the damaged area and blends it into the rest of the bath, which costs far less than replacing a fitted bath. You can generally use the bath the day after. We are often asked to fix cracks in an acrylic bath and scratches you can feel with a fingernail, in whirlpool & spa baths, cast iron enamel and acrylic.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Sadberge and across Darlington.

Sadberge: your questions answered

Will I be able to see the repair?

On a bath in good condition, a colour matched repair is very hard to spot. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

Most of the time. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so access behind the panel is important.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you.

Will the repair last?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It carries our one-year guarantee.

Can you redo an old repair?

Yes. We remove the old filler and start again. Tell us about it when you send pictures.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you will get one combined price.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes. The colour is mixed on site to suit your bath, including pastel and older colours.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Have new chips seen to early
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface

Clean with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and avoid dropping heavy items on the repaired area. Get any new chip seen to quickly, before rust can start.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so early repair keeps the cost down.

When a repair isn’t the answer

We won’t take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Should you replace it?

Many people think a damaged bath means a new one. In most cases it doesn’t: a proper repair gives it years more use, without the cost and upheaval of replacing it. Prices start from £95. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

What we do, step by step

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, and get on with the job, which normally takes a few hours, depending on the damage. If anything looks different from your photos, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Ask for a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Advice

Common problems we fix in Sadberge

A bath gets knocked about more than you’d think: bottles, shower heads and razors are dropped every day, and fittings press hard against the enamel. Over time, chips and rust spots are almost inevitable.

The things customers usually mention when they call include:

  • A kit repair that didn’t last
  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail
  • A chipped rim or side

What your quote should include

  • Whether the price covers travel
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • Who turns up on the day
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT

Choosing a repair company

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. Prices are worked out job by job, from your photos. The main factors are:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How much damage there is
  • Access to the area

A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

Getting a price from pictures

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what to send:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A photo taken from further back
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can price the job.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, especially around the waste, so early repairs matter.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.
