How we handle bath repair in Saints

We see every kind of bath damage: chips from dropped bottles, rust round the plughole, cracks in acrylic and holes from falling tools. Each is repaired in place with a one-year guarantee. We are often asked to fix a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting and rust spots around the plughole, across whirlpool & spa baths, cast iron enamel and roll-top & freestanding.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll sort it.

Before and after: a damaged acrylic bath corner repaired in place

What happens on the day

You do not need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we have agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take a morning or an afternoon, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can usually use the bath the next day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we take into account:

  • Access to the area
  • The colour and finish to match
  • The material and finish
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Quotes from your pictures

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Please include:

  • The material, if you know it
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Natural light rather than flash

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can give you a fixed price.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it
  • Don’t scrub with anything abrasive

There’s nothing special to do after a repair. Skip bleach and gritty creams and rinse after use.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, so water can’t get in. Remove it before the repair.

What we’re called out for in Saints

Dropped items cause the majority of chips, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: the bath is not properly supported, so it flexes under weight.

Common reasons people in Saints contact us are:

  • Damage beneath the taps
  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • Rusty patches near the plughole

What your quote should include

  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • How to care for the finish
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match

Choosing a repair company

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Saints: your questions answered

What information do you need?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787, and we’ll do the rest.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

In most cases. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so access behind the panel is important.

What does bath repair cost?

Prices start from £95. We give a fixed quote from your photos. Send a close-up and a photo of the entire item and your postcode.

Which areas do you work in?

The entire UK, including all of Luton. Send your postcode with your pictures and we’ll offer you dates.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.

When we’d advise against a repair

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel

Should I try a DIY kit first?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Repairing versus replacing in Saints

Think about the hidden costs of a new bath: removal and disposal, plumbing, a new panel, tiling and decorating. With a repair, it’s one visit and one price. Our bath repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.
