Bath repair for Scrabster homes

Why repair rather than replace?

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. A repair keeps it in place. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

About our bath repair in Scrabster

Most bath damage, from chips and cracks to rust spots and holes, can be repaired with the bath left exactly where it is. There is no plumbing to disconnect, the tiles are not touched, and the repaired area is colour matched so it blends in. Common call-outs are for damage beneath the taps and rusty patches near the plughole, across cast iron enamel, pressed steel enamel and roll-top & freestanding.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

How to look after the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface

Give the repair the full curing time we recommend before using the bath. After that, gentle cleaning keeps it looking good.

If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and water can get through to the floor below.

What your bath is made of matters

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. There’s no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

When we’d advise against a repair

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Scrabster: your questions answered

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

In most cases. Send us a picture of the hole and one from under the bath if you can.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before.

Can tenants book a repair?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

How do I get a price for bath repair in Scrabster?

Prices start from £95. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from pictures. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

Will I be able to see the repair?

On a glossy bath, you’ll struggle to find it. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.

When can I have a bath again?

Normally by the following day, though it depends on what we’ve done.

Work for landlords and builders

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, putting right damage done during fitting. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Signs you need bath repair in Scrabster

Rust tends to begin where water collects, by the plughole, beneath dripping taps or in an unrepaired chip. Water on bare metal causes rust that creeps under the surrounding enamel.

Contact us if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • A kit repair that didn’t last
  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • A chip where the taps sit
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface

What your quote should include

  • Whether the price covers travel
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • How to look after the finish
  • How your room will be protected

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

How the visit works

We begin by going over the job with you. After that, protection goes down around the work area and the work begins. Allow a few hours, depending on the damage, and we will keep you posted as we go.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

How to get a price

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.
