Bath repair at your home in Shandwick

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. A repair stops both. If you’re dealing with rusty patches near the plughole and impact holes in acrylic, we can help.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re not left on your own once we’ve gone.

Before and after: a damaged acrylic bath corner repaired in place

How to care for the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before running a bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, to keep water out. Remove it before the repair.

When to call us in Shandwick

Glass and heavy bottles cause more chips than anything else, with dropped shower heads close behind. Taps and wastes cause problems too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

The things clients normally mention when they call are:

  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • A chipped rim or side

10 questions to ask before booking

Shandwick questions

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, we often do. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Do you cover the entire of Highland?

Everywhere in the UK, Shandwick included. Travel is included in the price.

How invisible is a bath repair?

The goal is a repair that blends in. The rest of the bath’s condition makes a difference, and we’ll tell you what to expect.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Is there a call-out fee?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Do you cover Shandwick?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and come to Shandwick and the rest of Highland. Send photos and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can you match an avocado or pink bath?

Yes. We mix the colour on the day to match, including older coloured suites.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. We don’t charge extra for travel to Shandwick. The price comes down to:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • What kind of damage it is
  • The colour and finish to match
  • How easy the damage is to reach

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Getting a price from photos

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire bath, we can price the job.

Why repair rather than replace?

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and replacing like for like isn’t cheap. Repairing it leaves it where it is. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Shandwick. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Shandwick

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Rooms protected and left tidy

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

How the visit works

The work is clean and fairly quiet. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes a morning or an afternoon. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.
