Bath repair in Stone without replacing anything

Chips, cracks, rust spots and small holes can be repaired with the bath left exactly where it is. Nothing is unplumbed, the tiles are not touched, and the finish is matched to the rest of the bath. Common call-outs are for rust by the waste and overflow and a cracked acrylic bath, on acrylic, pressed steel enamel and cast iron enamel.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

Keeping it looking good

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath.

If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath until it’s repaired. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

Why repair rather than replace?

Swapping a damaged bath for a new one normally means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and disposing of the old one. Repairing it fixes just the damaged area in one visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, especially around the waste, so repair chips early.

What we can’t put right

We won’t take on work that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Signs you need bath repair in Stone

Rust usually starts where water sits, by the plughole, beneath dripping taps or in an unrepaired chip. Water on bare metal causes rust that creeps under the surrounding enamel.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • A failed DIY repair that is discoloured or lifting
  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • Damage beneath the taps
  • Rusty patches near the plughole

How it works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Allow a few hours. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

Questions from Stone

Can you quote from pictures?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the photos cannot show what we need.

When can you do it?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as everything cures.

Do you work in Stone?

Yes. We work across the UK and travel to Stone and the rest of Buckinghamshire. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Will I be able to see the repair?

We aim for a repair you cannot easily find. How well it disappears depends on the condition of the rest of the bath.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes. The colour is mixed on site to suit your bath, including pastel and older colours.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.
