Tacolneston questions

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit normally costs less than separate visits. Include pictures of each item.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes, very often. We take it back to sound metal, seal it, fill it and match the colour.

Do you charge for travel?

We do not add a call-out fee. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?

Usually. Photos of the hole and the underside help us check.

Do you cover the entire of Norfolk?

We cover the whole UK, including Tacolneston and the rest of Norfolk. Send your postcode with your photos and we will offer you dates.

Do you come to Tacolneston?

We do. Repair technicians travel to Tacolneston from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Do you need bath repair in Tacolneston?

Glass and heavy bottles cause more chips than anything else, closely followed by shower heads. Fittings cause damage too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • Damage beneath the taps
  • Chips caused by builders

10 questions to ask before you book

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. This is what makes a difference:

  • How much damage there is
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • What kind of damage it is

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book.

Quotes from your pictures

Photographing the damage takes a minute. Please include:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The material, if you know it

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price. Quotes are free and you are under no obligation.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep it looking its best:

  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Make sure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath without abrasive products.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, so water can’t get in. Remove it before the repair.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. Chips can rust if left, but the bath itself lasts for generations, which makes it well worth repairing.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Repair or replace: which is better?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Our bath repair starts from £95. Compared with replacing, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Why us?

  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Fixed prices from your photos
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Generally one visit, start to finish

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

The process

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can carry on at home. Protection goes down first, then the work takes two to three hours for most chips. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. Once it has cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready to use.

How to prepare

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

How to get a price

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through.
