Bath repair for Thwing homes

Repair or replace in Thwing?

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and replacing like for like isn’t cheap. A repair keeps it in place. Older homes around Thwing may have sizes and fittings that new pieces don’t match. Repairing avoids those problems.

Our bath repair starts from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing typically costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Bath repair in Thwing, done in place

A typical bath repair is a few hours’ work, and you can typically bathe again the following day. You won’t need a plumber or tiler, because the bath does not move. Typical jobs include chips along the edge of the bath and an old repair that has yellowed or come loose, in acrylic, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel.

Older homes around Thwing may have baths that have been in place for decades. If the bath is sound, bath repair gives it a new lease of life without disturbing the rest of the room.

All our work is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in East Riding of Yorkshire.

Thwing questions

Do you cover villages like Thwing?

We do: small places like Thwing are covered as standard. Just mention any tricky access.

Can you restore the original baths in an older house in Thwing?

In most cases: original pieces are often better made and harder to replace. We’ll give you an honest view from photos.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

What do you need from me?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Can you match an avocado or pink bath?

Yes, we match coloured baths too. We tint the finish to your bath on site.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Regularly. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

In most cases. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so access behind the panel is important.

Keeping it looking good

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly

A repaired bath needs no special treatment, beyond gentle cleaning. Skip bleach and gritty creams.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so it pays to deal with it early.

What a repair can’t fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. We can’t fix:

  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Roll-top & freestanding

  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

How the visit works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring all our kit in the van, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take two to three hours for most chips, and you can get on with other things while we’re there. For a rural address like Thwing, we plan the journey in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the bath repair comes with us in one trip.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

Work for landlords and builders

Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

For anyone letting property in or around Thwing, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send pictures for each address and we will price them together.

Can I fix it myself?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Thwing. What changes the price is:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The type of damage
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The material

We do not add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Quotes from your pictures

Two or three clear photos are normally enough. Try to include:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed price, not an estimate.
