Bath repair for Town homes

Bath repair in Town without replacing anything

Small damage on a bath is worth repairing early. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. Common call-outs are for an old repair that has yellowed or come loose and holes from dropped items, across acrylic, whirlpool & spa baths and roll-top & freestanding.

All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee.

How to look after the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Put a towel in the bath if you’re working above it
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Get any new chip seen to quickly, before rust sets in.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and water can get through to the floor below.

Common questions in Town

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

In most cases. Send us a picture of the hole and one from under the bath if you can.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it usually saves money. Send pictures of everything together and you will get one combined price.

What do you need from me?

Send pictures through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787, and we will take it from there.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Can you match an avocado or pink bath?

Yes, we match coloured baths too. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, frequently. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

What we do, step by step

Here’s how a visit normally runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Allow a few hours from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. Once it has cured, usually by the next day, the bath is ready to use.

Before we arrive

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

Related advice

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Common problems we fix in Town

Glass and heavy bottles cause more chips than anything else, closely followed by shower heads. Fittings cause damage too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

Clients typically contact us about:

  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted
  • Chips under the taps
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail

When we’d advise against a repair

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. We don’t charge extra for travel to Town. The price depends on:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How many areas need work
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Town. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Getting a price from photos

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • The material, if you know it
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Something in shot to show the size

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

For landlords and businesses

For anyone letting property in or around Town, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send photos for each one and we will come back with a combined price.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.
