Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. Each job gets its own fixed quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • What the surface is made of

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Tremadog. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

How to get a fixed price

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To help us price it:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • The material, if you know it

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

DIY kit or professional repair?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

How it works

We begin by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we’re doing. Then the area is sheeted and masked and we start. Allow two to three hours for most chips, and we will keep you posted as we go.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, generally the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Getting a price

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price. There’s no charge for the quote and you’re under no obligation.

Advice

How to care for the repair

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long

Treat the repaired area like the rest of the bath: a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs. Avoid scourers and gritty cream cleaners.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so early repair keeps the cost down.

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

Tremadog: your questions answered

Can you redo an old repair?

Yes. We remove the old filler and start again. Tell us about it when you send pictures.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Can pets and children be at home?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day.

Do the materials smell?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

Normally, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a picture.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, we often do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. If there is more, we will tell you before starting.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Work for landlords and builders

For anyone letting property in or around Tremadog, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send pictures for each address and we’ll come back with a combined price.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Repairing versus replacing in Tremadog

People often assume a cracked or chipped bath has to come out. Generally it doesn’t: a proper repair gives it years more use, and costs far less than the disruption of a replacement. Prices start from £95. Compared with replacing, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Why Tremadog customers choose us
