About our bath repair in Tŷ-rhiw

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, while cracks in acrylic grow each time the bath moves. A repair stops both. Typical jobs include chips along the edge of the bath and snagging damage from a refit, in cast iron enamel, pressed steel enamel and whirlpool & spa baths.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll sort it.

DIY kit or professional repair?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Aftercare tips

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Put a towel in the bath if you’re working above it
  • Do not leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted

Don’t leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. And fix dripping taps promptly.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, so water can’t get in. Remove it before the repair.

Honest limits

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Repairing versus replacing in Tŷ-rhiw

Swapping a damaged bath for a new one normally involves a plumber, removing the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and disposing of the old one. Repairing it deals only with the damage in one visit. Prices start from £95. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

Why book with us

  • Straight answers about what a repair can do
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface

The process

We begin by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. After that, protection goes down around the work area and we start. Allow a morning or an afternoon, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Clear the area around the damage

What affects the price in Tŷ-rhiw

Prices start from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Tŷ-rhiw. What changes the price is:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • The material
  • The size and number of damaged areas

Compared with replacing, repairing generally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Getting a price from photos

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • The material, if you know it
  • One picture of the whole bath

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them to us with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price. Quotes are free and no obligation.

Repairs by material

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.
