Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

How we handle bath repair in Water Run

Repairing baths is what we do most. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in one visit. If you are dealing with cracks in an acrylic bath and a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting, we can typically put it right, whatever the material.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months in Water Run and everywhere else. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

The process

The work is clean and fairly quiet. Protection goes down first, then the work takes two to three hours for most chips. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.

How to prepare

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Repair or replace: which is better?

For damage in one or two places, a repair is the obvious choice. It’s a fraction of the cost of a new bath and fitting, it’s done in one visit, and nothing else in the room changes. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. We charge the same wherever you are, so there’s no premium for Water Run. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • The material
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Whether we combine several jobs

What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Quotes from your photos

Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • One picture of the entire bath

We price from photos so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

When we’d advise against a repair

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What we work on

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel

Questions from Water Run

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Something went through my bath. Can it be fixed?

Frequently, if there is access underneath. We back the hole, fill it and refinish the surface.

Can you quote from photos?

Usually, yes. Clear photos let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.

How do I get a price for bath repair in Water Run?

Prices start from £95. Every job gets a fixed quote from your pictures. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.

Will there be a smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work that clears as it cures.

Will the repair last?

Done properly, a repair lasts for years, and it’s guaranteed for a year. Gentle cleaning helps.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Just add the extra items to your pictures and you’ll get one combined price.

Are there extra charges for Water Run?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Don’t leave a fresh chip for long

A repaired bath needs no special treatment. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners and give it a rinse after each bath.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, to keep water out. Remove it before the repair.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.
