Bath resealing for Bierley homes

What we are called out for in Bierley

No sealant lasts for ever. Each shower leaves moisture and soap behind, which mould feeds on, and the joint flexes each time the bath fills.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Damp near the bath
  • A messy previous reseal
  • Missing sealant behind the taps
  • Black mould in the sealant

10 questions to ask before booking

How we handle bath resealing in Bierley

We reseal baths with them filled with water, so the joint is at its widest, which stops the new seal tearing the first time the bath is used. If you’re dealing with missing sealant behind the taps and silicone smeared on tiles, we can generally put it right, on baths, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures alike.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Bierley questions

How soon can you come?

That depends on our diary for your area. Send pictures with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

Is there any odour?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit generally costs less than separate visits. Include pictures of each item.

Do you seal over the old sealant?

We always remove the old sealant completely. Fresh silicone does not stick to old.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Prices and what affects them

Prices are worked out job by job. The main factors are:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • The type of damage
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The material and finish

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Quotes from your pictures

You can take the pictures on your phone. Just ensure we can see:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

Why reseal now?

Resealing is a small job. Putting off a reseal can let water reach the walls and floor, which costs far more to put right. We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

How it works

Your technician turns up when we said we would and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. Most visits take about two hours for a bath, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Repairs by material

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

Work for landlords and builders

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

Letting agents often send us pictures straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Looking after it afterwards

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in

Good ventilation is the best protection, and wipe the joints after use.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. An early reseal keeps water where it belongs.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
  • Hollow or loose tiles

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.
