FAQs for Newport

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

The bath or tray is probably flexing. Persistent splitting can mean the support needs attention.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

Which areas do you work in?

Across the UK. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

What does bath resealing cost?

The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You will get a fixed figure before you book.

Are you accredited?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses in Newport.

How long does silicone take to cure?

You’ll get the curing time from us, generally around a day.

Can I fix it myself?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, once the joint is completely dry.

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

Honest limits

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. We cannot fix:

  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Very wide gaps that need a trim

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

What we work on

  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Basins & vanity units

How to look after the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off
  • Let steam out after showers

Let it cure fully before using the bath or shower, generally around 24 hours.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. There may be more going on, and we’ll say if you need a builder or plumber.

How it works

Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for about two hours for a bath from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. We clean the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, taps included.

Before we arrive

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Let us know about parking or access

Is resealing worth it?

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It soon peels, and mould stays trapped behind it. We remove the old sealant completely. A repair normally costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.
