How we handle bath resealing in Blackamoor

A reseal is a small job that makes a big difference. Clean, white joints make a bathroom look cared for, and they keep water out. Whether it’s an untidy old seal and silicone coming away from the tiles, we can normally put it right, on shower trays & enclosures, baths and basins & vanity units alike.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we’ll come back.

How we price bath resealing

Every quote is fixed and free. What we take into account:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The colour and finish to match
  • How easy the damage is to reach

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

Send pictures for a quote

You can take the photos on your phone. Make sure they show:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The material, if you know it
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

We price from photos so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

Why it’s worth resealing in Blackamoor

A reseal is one of the cheapest bathroom jobs there is and protects the walls and floor. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Repairs by material

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

When to call us in Blackamoor

A bathroom without good ventilation is hard on sealant: moisture sits on the joints longer, and mould takes hold.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Silicone smeared on tiles
  • Unsealed corners
  • Gaps in the seal
  • Leaks at the edges

What your quote should include

  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • When it can be used again
  • Who turns up on the day

Blackamoor questions

What happens if you find more damage?

Your quote covers the damage in the pictures. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Will there be a smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, which is why we ventilate. It clears as the materials cure.

How long does resealing take?

A bath or shower normally takes a couple of hours. It then needs time to cure.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

You will get a fixed quote back, typically with dates to choose from. There’s no obligation to book.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.

Why does mould come back so fast?

Mould needs moisture. Ventilation and drying keep it clean longer.

Can new silicone go over old?

We always remove the old sealant completely. Fresh silicone does not stick to old.

Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Reseal when black spots will not clean off

Leave the sealant to cure for the time we give you, usually around 24 hours.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. It may be more than a reseal, and we’ll say if you need a builder or plumber.

What a repair can’t fix

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Hollow or loose tiles

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Materials we work on in Blackamoor

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

The process

Your technician turns up when we said we would, introduces themselves and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. Most visits take around two hours, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. We dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. For a bath, we fill it with water first so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, including around the taps.

Preparing for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Point us to the nearest place to park
