The usual cause: poor support
A tray needs firm, even support across its whole base. If it was fitted on dabs of adhesive, an uneven floor or a timber floor that flexes, it moves each time someone stands on it. Over time that flexing cracks it, often near the waste.
Other causes
- Dropped heavy items such as bottles or tiles
- Damage during fitting
- Very hot water on some acrylic trays
Is yours repairable?
Stand on the tray. If it moves, creaks or flexes, the support needs sorting first, or a repair will crack again. If it’s solid, a crack can often be repaired and refinished in place. If water is getting through the crack, stop using the shower until it’s fixed, as leaks can damage ceilings and floors.
What to send us
Send a photo of the crack, a photo of the whole tray, the tray material if you know it, and whether it moves underfoot. We’ll tell you honestly whether to repair or replace it.
Every job is different. Send us a photo and we’ll tell you what we’d recommend for your bath, sink or surface.
