Resealing in Blaenau: why it matters

Resealing is a small job. Leaving split or mouldy sealant can let water reach the walls and floor, and that damage costs much more to fix. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

What you get with us

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

What a repair cannot fix

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

How the visit works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Allow a couple of hours from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

How to prepare

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Getting a price

Advice

DIY repairs versus a professional job

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Keeping it looking good

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner

Do not scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and don’t stand bottles on the seal.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. An early reseal keeps water where it belongs.

For landlords and businesses

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, pictures and access details and we’ll handle the rest.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We will fit around changeovers where we can.
