What a repair cannot fix

It helps to know what we cannot do:

  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we work on

  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Bath resealing in Castle, done in place

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint opens fully, which stops the new seal tearing the first time the bath is used. We’re frequently asked to fix water getting behind the bath or tray and silicone coming away from the tiles, across shower trays & enclosures, baths and kitchen worktops & sinks.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

What bath resealing costs

There’s no charge for travel to Castle. The price comes down to:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The material and finish

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Quotes from your photos

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The material, if you know it
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath or shower
  • Details of any past repairs

Email us a photo of the damage and one of the whole item, and tell us you’re in Castle, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Ventilate the bathroom well

Don’t scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. It may be more than a reseal, and we’ll say if you need a builder or plumber.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

The process

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which usually takes a couple of hours. If we find something your pictures didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

How to get a price

Advice

Your questions about bath resealing in Castle

Can new silicone go over old?

No, we never seal over old silicone. The old sealant is cut out and the joint cleaned and dried.

Can you price it without visiting?

Nearly always. If photos don’t show enough, we will ask for another angle.

How long does a reseal take?

Typically a couple of hours, then it needs to cure.

Do the materials smell?

It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

What happens after I send photos?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

Is there a guarantee?

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Why reseal now?

Resealing is routine maintenance. Putting off a reseal lets water get behind the bath or tray, which costs far more to put right. We do not add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Why us?

  • No need to remove anything
  • Straight answers about what a repair can do
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Fixed prices from your pictures
