Bath resealing near Newnham

Bath resealing at your home in Newnham

A proper reseal starts with removing every trace of the old silicone. New silicone won’t bond to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. Whether it’s missing sealant behind the taps and discoloured, yellow sealant, we can help.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will sort it.

Your questions about bath resealing in Newnham

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before.

Do I need to be at home?

We need someone to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Of course, and it usually saves money. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

Can you quote from pictures?

In nearly every case. If photos do not show enough, we will ask for another angle.

Can new silicone go over old?

Never over old. The old sealant is cut out and the joint cleaned and dried.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

The bath or tray is probably flexing. Persistent splitting can mean the support needs attention.

Why does my sealant keep going mouldy?

Mould needs moisture. Run the fan, dry the joints and the new seal stays cleaner for longer.

What happens on the day

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you know when to expect us. On site, it takes a couple of hours in most cases. The room is left tidy and you’ll know when it can be used.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. The joint is cleaned and any mould treated.
  3. We dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, taps included.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

Keeping it looking good

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Use the extractor fan
  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in

Use the extractor fan, wipe the joints dry after use, and clean them regularly with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Reseal before water gets in. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

Why it’s worth resealing in Newnham

Putting new silicone over old does not last. It peels within weeks, and traps mould underneath. We remove the old sealant completely. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Repairs by material

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

What a repair can’t fix

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, including:

  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone
  • Hollow or loose tiles

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms

Can I fix it myself?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Do you need bath resealing in Newnham?

Sealant doesn’t last forever. Each shower leaves moisture and soap behind, which mould loves, and the joint moves slightly every time the bath is filled.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • Leaks at the edges
  • Silicone smeared on tiles
  • Missing sealant behind the taps
  • Stained silicone
