How we handle bath resealing in Castle Bytham

Baths, trays, basins and kitchen worktops all get resealed using mould-resistant silicone. A typical reseal takes a couple of hours, plus curing time. We work on kitchen worktops & sinks, basins & vanity units and baths, and common reasons people contact us are unsealed corners and mould you can’t clean out.

Every job is backed for twelve months in Castle Bytham and everywhere else. We return to put right any problem with the work.

When we would advise against a repair

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • A flexing bath
  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Baths

Keeping it looking good

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers

Leave the sealant to cure for the time we give you, normally about a day.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. It may be more than a reseal, so we will tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Prices and what affects them

Prices are worked out job by job, from your pictures. The main factors are:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The type of damage
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Getting a price from pictures

Photographing the damage takes a minute. Try to send:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Any details about the material
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath or shower, add your postcode and send them to us. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.

When to call us in Castle Bytham

Black mould is the most common reason people reseal. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning only removes the surface.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • A messy previous reseal
  • Stained silicone
  • Water getting behind the bath or tray
  • Black mould in the sealant

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the price covers travel
  • What preparation is included
  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
  • Whether a trained technician does the job

How to compare quotes

What we do, step by step

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we will get on with it. Most visits take about two hours for a bath.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. We dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, taps included.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Ask for a price

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them to us with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price. There is no charge for the quote and you are under no obligation.

Related advice

Can I fix it myself?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Resealing in Castle Bytham: why it matters

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It soon peels, and mould stays trapped behind it. We remove the old sealant completely. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.
