Bath resealing near Cathedral Quarter

Bath resealing in Cathedral Quarter, done in place

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. Fresh sealant does not stick to old, which is why many DIY jobs peel. We work on basins & vanity units, kitchen worktops & sinks and baths, and people most often call us about water getting behind the bath or tray and silicone coming away from the tiles.

Every job is backed for twelve months. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Prices and what affects them

There’s no area surcharge for Cathedral Quarter. What changes the price is:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Access to the area

The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. You’ll see the full price before booking.

Getting a price from photos

Photographing the damage takes a minute. Please include:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • One picture of the entire bath or shower
  • Any details about the material

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Cathedral Quarter: your questions answered

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Yes, we frequently do. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

How long does a reseal take?

A bath or shower generally takes a couple of hours. Leave it to cure before use.

How quickly can you book me in?

That depends on our diary for your area. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Do you seal over the old sealant?

Never over old. The old sealant is cut out and the joint cleaned and dried.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just make sure the landlord agrees.

How long does silicone take to cure?

We will give you the curing time.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it normally saves money. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

What happens on the day

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, and get on with the job, which normally takes about two hours for a bath. If we find something your pictures didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on.

  1. The surrounding area is protected and the joints masked.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. We run a continuous bead of new silicone.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

Ask for a price

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, once the joint is completely dry.

DIY kit or professional repair?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

When to call us in Cathedral Quarter

Joints split if the bath or tray moves, frequently because it was sealed with the bath empty.

If you can see any of these, send us a picture:

  • Water getting behind the bath or tray
  • Old sealant that looks dirty
  • Black mould in the sealant
  • Missing sealant behind the taps

What your quote should include

  • Who will actually do the work
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • How soon you can use it again

10 questions to ask before booking

When we’d advise against a repair

In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
  • Hollow or loose tiles

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Reseal when black spots will not clean off
  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Keep bottles off the joints

Leave the sealant to cure for the time we give you, normally around 24 hours.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

Why reseal now?

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It peels within weeks, and traps mould underneath. We remove the old sealant completely. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.
