What a repair can’t fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. Repairs will not solve:

  • Hidden water damage
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before booking.

About our bath resealing in Cockett

All of the old sealant is cut out, treat any mould, and reseal with new mould-resistant silicone. We do this for baths, showers, sinks and worktops, including the awkward bits behind the taps. We regularly repair kitchen worktops & sinks, basins & vanity units and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are leaks at the edges and a messy previous reseal.

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee.

DIY kit or professional repair?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Common questions in Cockett

How do I book?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Something is moving. If it keeps happening, the support may need fixing.

Is there a call-out fee?

There is no separate call-out charge. Your fixed quote includes everything.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

How long will it take?

A bath or shower normally takes a couple of hours. Leave it to cure before use.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

The process

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which generally takes about two hours for a bath. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we will explain it before carrying on.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Related advice

Is resealing worth it?

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. We remove the old sealant completely. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Signs you need bath resealing in Cockett

Black mould is the most common reason people reseal. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning can’t get it all out.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Black spots in the silicone
  • Silicone smeared on tiles
  • Missing sealant behind the taps
  • Discoloured, yellow sealant

What to look for in a quote

  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers

Aftercare tips

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Don’t stand toiletries on the seal
  • Let steam out after showers
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Reseal when black spots will not clean off

Keep the room well ventilated, and wipe the joints after use.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. An early reseal keeps water where it belongs.

What bath resealing costs

Each job gets its own fixed quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How many items we do on one visit

We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Cockett. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

How to get a fixed price

Two or three clear photos are normally enough. Try to include:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • The material, if you know it
  • A photo taken from further back

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them to us with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price. Quotes are free and no obligation.
