How we handle bath resealing in Colney Heath

All of the old sealant is cut out, deal with any mould, and reseal with new mould-resistant silicone. We reseal baths, showers, sinks and worktops, including the awkward bits behind the taps. We work on basins & vanity units, wet rooms and shower trays & enclosures, and people most frequently call us about old sealant that looks dirty and black spots in the silicone.

How the visit works

You do not need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. It typically takes a couple of hours, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Related advice

Is resealing worth it?

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It peels within weeks, and traps mould underneath. A proper reseal removes the old first. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send pictures and we will give you the exact figure.

Why Colney Heath customers choose us

  • A year’s guarantee on all work

  • Straight answers about what a repair can do

What we can’t put right

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’d rather say so up front. We can’t fix:

  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

Can I fix it myself?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

Repairs by material

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

Colney Heath questions

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Why does my sealant keep going mouldy?

Mostly moisture and poor ventilation. We use mould-resistant silicone, and ventilation helps it last.

When can I use the bath after resealing?

Normally about a day later. We’ll tell you the exact time.

Do you work in Colney Heath?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to Colney Heath for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

Do you cover the whole of Hertfordshire?

Everywhere in the UK, Colney Heath included. Travel is included in the price.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

All the old sealant comes out. Fresh silicone does not stick to old.

Why does the silicone keep cracking?

Typically because the bath or tray moves, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We seal baths full of water.

Aftercare tips

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off
  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Use the extractor fan

Let it cure fully before using the bath or shower, usually around 24 hours.

Do not wait until water gets behind the bath. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

How we price bath resealing

We don’t charge extra for travel to Colney Heath. The price comes down to:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Unusual colours or finishes

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Quotes from your photos

Before you send pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • The material, if you know it
  • Details of any past repairs

Send us a picture of the damage and one of the entire item, with your AL4 postcode, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.
