Bath resealing in Coneyhurst

How we handle bath resealing in Coneyhurst

Resealing is one of the simplest ways to protect your bathroom. Old, split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, and resealing puts a stop to that. We work on kitchen worktops & sinks, shower trays & enclosures and wet rooms, and people most frequently call us about sealant that’s split or lifting and stained silicone.

Peace of mind is built in: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we will explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

What we cannot put right

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:

  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • A flexing bath
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units

How the visit works

We turn up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your photos first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes around two hours, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. The joint is dried thoroughly.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, including around the taps.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

How to get a price

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Advice

DIY repairs versus a professional job

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

Keeping it looking good

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:

  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Dry the seal after bathing

Avoid scraping the joints, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Do not wait until water gets behind the bath. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

Why reseal now?

Resealing is a small job. Putting off a reseal can let water reach the walls and floor, which costs far more to put right. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. You will see the full price before you book, with no extras added later.

Coneyhurst questions

Is there any odour?

There can be some smell while we work. It fades as everything cures.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

How long does silicone take to cure?

We will give you the curing time, generally around a day.

Can pets and children be at home?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

We always remove the old sealant completely. New silicone won’t bond to old.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and you’ll get one combined price.

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Do you need bath resealing in Coneyhurst?

A bathroom without good ventilation is hard on sealant: damp hangs around, and mould grows faster.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Black spots in the silicone
  • Sealant that is split or lifting
  • Old sealant that looks dirty
  • Damp near the bath

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the price covers travel
  • What prep work is covered
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
