Coombe Hill: your questions answered
How long does silicone take to cure?
Normally about a day later. We’ll tell you the exact time.
Will it make a mess?
Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we’ve finished.
What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?
Your quote covers the damage in the photos. If there’s more, we will tell you before starting.
Does someone need to be in?
Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.
Is it OK to have pets in the house?
Just keep them out of the work area. We will tell you when the room can be used again.
Why does the silicone keep cracking?
Movement is the usual cause, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We seal baths full of water.
Can you repair something that is been repaired before?
Most of the time. Tell us what was done before and we will plan for it.
What does bath resealing cost?
We give a fixed price from your pictures. Send a close-up and a photo of the whole item and your postcode.

Different materials, different repairs
Baths
Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.
Shower trays
We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.
Why reseal now?
A reseal is one of the cheapest bathroom jobs there is. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

How it works
On the day, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take about two hours for a bath. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.
- We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
- Old sealant and residue are removed.
- The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
- Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
- The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.
Before we arrive
- Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
- Let us know which floor the room is on
- Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
Ask for a price
There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Can I fix it myself?
DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.
If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.
How to care for the repair
Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:
- Use the extractor fan
- Don’t stand toiletries on the seal
- Open a window after bathing
- Clean the sealant gently and regularly
Run the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.
Don’t wait until water gets behind the bath. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.
