Why reseal now?

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. We remove the old sealant completely. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with no extras added later.

Why us?

  • Everything repaired in place
  • A fixed quote before booking
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • One-year guarantee on every repair

We reseal baths, shower trays, basins and worktops. A typical reseal takes a couple of hours. We’re frequently asked to fix mould you can’t clean out and sealant that’s split or lifting, across baths, kitchen worktops & sinks and basins & vanity units.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we will come back.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

The process

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take about two hours for a bath, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. We dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. For a bath, we fill it with water first so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, taps included.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Make sure the area is dry

How to get a price

There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

What affects the price in Cowbit

Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • What the surface is made of
  • The colour and finish to match

Compared with replacing, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Getting a price from photos

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To help us price it:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath or shower

Send us pictures of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, and tell us you are in Cowbit, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

When to call us in Cowbit

Poor ventilation speeds things up: moisture sits on the joints longer, and mould takes hold.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Old sealant that looks dirty
  • A messy previous reseal
  • Black mould in the sealant
  • Sealant that’s split or lifting

What your quote should include

  • What preparation is included
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • A fixed quote, and whether VAT is included
  • Who will actually do the work

Choosing a repair company

Keeping it looking good

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Let steam out after showers
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly

Do not scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Black mould in sealant is not just unsightly; it shows moisture is getting in. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.
