Need bath resealing in Downside?

About our bath resealing in Downside

Resealing is one of the simplest ways to protect your bathroom. Old, split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, and a new seal stops it. Common call-outs are for gaps by the taps and damp near the bath, across baths, shower trays & enclosures and kitchen worktops & sinks.

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in North Somerset.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

When a repair is not the answer

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.

Downside questions

Why does the silicone keep cracking?

Something is moving. Persistent splitting can mean the support needs attention.

How do I stop mould in sealant?

Damp is the cause. Run the fan, dry the joints and the new seal stays cleaner for longer.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send photos with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.

What areas do you cover?

Everywhere in the UK, Downside included. There is no extra charge for travel.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

No, we never seal over old silicone. It’s removed, cleaned off and the joint dried first.

How long before I can shower?

We’ll give you the curing time.

Why it’s worth resealing in Downside

Resealing costs very little. Leaving failed sealant can let water cause damage that costs far more to fix. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

DIY kit or professional repair?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

Keeping it looking good

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Use the extractor fan
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Store bottles on a shelf

Run the extractor fan, wipe the joints dry after use, and clean them regularly with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. There may be more going on, and we’ll say if you need a builder or plumber.

What bath resealing costs

Each job gets its own fixed quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • The type of damage
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • How many areas need work

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Downside. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

How to get a fixed quote

Phone pictures are fine, there’s no need for anything special. Just make sure we can see:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.

What happens on the day

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes around two hours. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. We clean the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, including around the taps.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

You do not need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.
