Bath & shower resealing (mastic) in Dunster, Somerset
Our technicians come to Dunster for bath, shower and sink resealing with new mould-resistant silicone. Everything is done in place, with a one-year guarantee.
- Unsealed corners
- Damp near the bath
- Black mould in the sealant

Prices and what affects them
Prices are worked out job by job, from your pictures. What matters most is:
- How many areas need work
- The colour and finish to match
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
- The material and finish
We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Dunster. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.
Send photos for a quote
A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:
- A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
- A close-up of the damage, in focus
- One picture of the whole bath or shower
- The material, if you know it
Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath or shower, add your postcode and send them to us. You will get a fixed quote, not an estimate.
Bath resealing in Dunster without replacing anything
Preparation is everything in a reseal: old silicone removed, mould treated, the joint cleaned and dried. Then the fresh sealant goes on, in a neat, continuous bead. We are often asked to fix gaps by the taps and gaps in the seal, across shower trays & enclosures, wet rooms and baths.
A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once we have gone.

Common problems we fix in Dunster
Poor ventilation speeds things up: damp hangs around, and mould takes hold.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- Black spots in the silicone
- Old sealant that looks dirty
- Sealant that is split or lifting
- Water getting behind the bath or tray
Before you book anyone
- The length of the guarantee and what it covers
- Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
- How to look after the finish
- How the room is protected while they work
When we would advise against a repair
We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:
- A flexing bath
- Very wide gaps that need a trim
- Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.
Surfaces we repair
- Wet rooms
- Baths
- Shower trays & enclosures
- Kitchen worktops & sinks
- Basins & vanity units
What we do, step by step
Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which normally takes around two hours. If anything looks different from your pictures, we will talk to you before going ahead.
- First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
- We clean the joint and treat any mould.
- We dry the joint thoroughly.
- We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
- We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, taps included.
Before we arrive
- Make sure the area is dry
- Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
- Let us know if it has been repaired before

Related advice
Dunster: your questions answered
What happens if you find more damage?
We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.
Why does my sealant keep splitting?
Generally because the bath or tray moves, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We seal baths full of water.
Is my repair covered?
Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.
Do you cover Dunster?
Yes. We cover the whole UK and come to Dunster and the rest of Somerset. Send us photos for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.
Can you repair several things at once?
Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.
How long does silicone take to cure?
Generally after around 24 hours. We’ll tell you the exact time.
Why does my sealant keep going mouldy?
Mostly moisture and poor ventilation. We use mould-resistant silicone, and ventilation helps it last.
Is there a call-out fee?
There’s no separate call-out charge. Your fixed quote includes everything.
What your bath or shower is made of matters
Sinks and worktops
Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.
Shower trays
We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.
Keeping it looking good
Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:
- Store bottles on a shelf
- Ventilate the bathroom well
- Open a window after bathing
- Keep the joints dry
Use the extractor fan, wipe the joints dry after use, and clean them regularly with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.
Do not wait until water gets behind the bath. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.
Is resealing worth it?
Resealing is routine maintenance. Putting off a reseal lets water get behind the bath or tray, which costs far more to put right. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

DIY repairs versus a professional job
What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.
