What a repair can’t fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. We cannot fix:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Hidden water damage

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

What we work on

  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Is resealing worth it?

Resealing is a small job. Leaving split or mouldy sealant can let water reach the walls and floor, and that damage costs much more to fix. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.

Why Great Horkesley clients choose us

The process

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take a couple of hours.

  1. We cut out and remove all of the old sealant.
  2. The joint is cleaned and any mould treated.
  3. The joint is dried thoroughly.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, taps included.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

How to compare quotes

Can I fix it myself?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

Keeping it looking good

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:

  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Wipe the joints dry after use

Run the extractor fan, wipe the joints dry after use, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Black mould in sealant isn’t just unsightly, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

Prices and what affects them

We charge the same across the UK, including Great Horkesley. What changes the price is:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

Set against the cost of replacement, repairing normally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

How to get a fixed price

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To make it quick:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Natural light rather than flash

Most clients in Great Horkesley get their price from pictures. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.
