Bath resealing in Green Tye

How we handle bath resealing in Green Tye

Preparation is everything in a reseal: every bit of old silicone out, mould treated, the joint clean and dry. Then the fresh sealant goes on, in a neat, continuous bead. We work on wet rooms, kitchen worktops & sinks and baths, and the jobs we see most are sealant that’s split or lifting and stained silicone.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Green Tye as everywhere else we work.

Repairs by material

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

What we do, step by step

When we visit, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job usually takes a couple of hours. We clean up when we’re done and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

DIY repairs versus a professional job

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Common problems we fix in Green Tye

Even good sealant eventually discolours particularly in a well-used bathroom. Steam, soap and movement all wear it down.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • Leaks at the edges
  • Black mould in the sealant
  • Missing sealant behind the taps
  • Discoloured, yellow sealant

Before booking anyone

  • Who will actually do the work
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • What happens if they find more damage

Common questions in Green Tye

How do I book?

Just photos, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Usually, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Do you come to Green Tye?

We do. Repair technicians travel to Green Tye from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.

Can landlords book you?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

How quickly can you book me in?

That depends on our diary for your area. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

Landlord and trade work in Green Tye

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Green Tye use us as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it generally costs far less than a refit.

Letting agents often send us pictures straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Let steam out after showers

Good ventilation is the best protection, and dry the joints after bathing.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. It may be more than a reseal, so we will tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

What bath resealing costs

You won’t pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • How many areas need work
  • What kind of damage it is
  • What the surface is made of
  • How hard the colour is to match

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Quotes from your photos

You can normally get a fixed quote without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • One picture of the entire bath or shower
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath or shower, include your postcode and send them to us. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.
