Bath resealing in Heckfield

How we handle bath resealing in Heckfield

We cut out all of the old sealant, treat any mould, and apply fresh mould-resistant silicone. We reseal baths, showers, sinks and worktops, including the awkward bits behind the taps. We work on kitchen worktops & sinks, baths and shower trays & enclosures, and people most often call us about water getting behind the bath or tray and silicone smeared on tiles.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there is a problem and we’ll come back.

The process

You do not need to empty the room. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we have agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take a couple of hours, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. We clean the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. For a bath, we fill it with water first so the joint is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, taps included.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

For landlords and businesses

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

How we price bath resealing

Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Access to the area

Compared with replacing, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Getting a price from pictures

Before you send photos, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • Details of any past repairs
  • The material, if you know it
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

For a price in Heckfield, photos are the quickest way: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Honest limits

We would rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Gaps too big for silicone alone
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Hollow or loose tiles

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before you book.

What we work on

  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Can I fix it myself?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Common problems we fix in Heckfield

Sealant splits when the bath or tray moves, often because it was sealed with the bath empty.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • Gaps in the seal
  • An untidy old seal
  • Water getting behind the bath or tray
  • Stained silicone

Questions to ask before you book

  • How the room is protected while they work
  • How to look after the finish
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • What happens if they find more damage

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, once the joint is completely dry.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Keeping it looking good

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Don’t stand toiletries on the seal
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Let steam out after showers

Don’t scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and do not stand bottles on the seal.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. It may be more than a reseal, so we will tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.
