Bath resealing in Hest Bank

What we cannot put right

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’d rather say so up front. We cannot fix:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Movement in the bath or tray

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we work on in Hest Bank

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Bath resealing in Hest Bank, done in place

Resealing is one of the simplest ways to protect your bathroom. Old, split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, and resealing puts a stop to that. We are often asked to fix discoloured, yellow sealant and sealant that’s split or lifting, across kitchen worktops & sinks, shower trays & enclosures and baths.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Keeping it looking good

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in

Let it cure fully before using the bath or shower, generally around 24 hours.

Black mould in sealant isn’t just unsightly. An early reseal keeps water where it belongs.

Questions from Hest Bank

How long does a reseal take?

Around two hours for a bath, then it needs to cure.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Can landlords book you?

Yes, frequently. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote.

Why does the silicone keep cracking?

Movement is the usual cause. We fill the bath before sealing it.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, which is why we ventilate. It fades as everything cures.

When can I use the bath after resealing?

Generally after around 24 hours. We confirm before we leave.

How it works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and tidy away. Allow around two hours. Before we go, we’ll explain when it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. For a bath, we fill it with water first so the joint is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, including around the taps.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

Different materials, different repairs

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, once the joint is completely dry.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Is resealing worth it?

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. A proper reseal removes the old first. There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Black mould is the most common reason people reseal. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning only removes the surface.
