Bath resealing for Hever homes

About our bath resealing in Hever

Preparation is everything in a reseal: every bit of old silicone out, mould treated, the joint clean and dry. Only then does the new sealant go on, as one neat, continuous bead. We’re often asked to fix stained silicone and an untidy old seal, across shower trays & enclosures, kitchen worktops & sinks and baths.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Hever as everywhere else we work.

What a repair cannot fix

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • Hidden water damage
  • Hollow or loose tiles
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What we work on

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms

What we do, step by step

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. Protection goes down first, then the work takes a couple of hours. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Clear the area around the damage

How to get a price

Advice

What bath resealing costs

You’ll know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • Access to the area
  • The material and finish
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to get a fixed quote

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what to send:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • One picture of the entire bath or shower

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Can I fix it myself?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

When to call us in Hever

No sealant lasts for ever. Every bath or shower adds moisture and soap residue, which mould feeds on, and the joint flexes each time the bath fills.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Silicone smeared on tiles
  • Mould you can’t clean out
  • Discoloured, yellow sealant
  • Gaps in the seal

Before booking anyone

  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • How soon you can use it again
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • Whether they match the colour on site

Our hiring checklist

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Let steam out after showers
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Store bottles on a shelf

Keep the room well ventilated, and wipe the joints after use.

Do not wait until water gets behind the bath. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

Hever questions

Why does the silicone keep cracking?

The bath or tray is probably flexing. Persistent splitting can mean the support needs attention.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Normally, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

Your quote covers the damage in the pictures. If there is more, we will tell you before starting.

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed price, typically with dates to choose from. There is no obligation to book.

Do you work in Hever?

We do. Repair technicians travel to Hever from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Can new silicone go over old?

Never over old. The old sealant is cut out and the joint cleaned and dried.

How long does resealing take?

A bath or shower normally takes a couple of hours. It then needs time to cure.

Is resealing worth it?

Compared with repairing water damage, resealing is cheap. It’s a quick job that protects your walls and floors. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. You will see the full price before you book, with nothing added on the day.
