Bath resealing at your home in Hough

Baths, trays, basins and kitchen worktops all get resealed using mould-resistant silicone. Most jobs take a couple of hours, then it needs to cure. Our technicians work on wet rooms, kitchen worktops & sinks and baths, and common reasons people get in touch are damp near the bath and discoloured, yellow sealant.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re not left on your own once we have gone.

How the visit works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, do the job and clear up. Allow around two hours from start to finish. Before we go, we will explain how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Ask for a price

A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the whole bath or shower, add your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

10 questions to ask before you book

Why reseal now?

Resealing costs very little, and it protects everything around the bath. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

FAQs for Hough

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Usually, yes. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Something is moving. If it keeps happening, the support may need fixing.

Are there extra charges for Hough?

No. Our quotes include travel, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Do you seal over the old sealant?

All the old sealant comes out. New silicone will not bond to old.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as everything cures.

Aftercare tips

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Don’t stand toiletries on the seal
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting

Keep the room well ventilated, and dry the joints after bathing.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem; it shows moisture is getting in. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

For landlords and businesses

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

When a repair is not the answer

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, including:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Hidden water damage
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.
