Why it’s worth resealing in Kelsale

Resealing costs very little, and it protects everything around the bath. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

Why Kelsale customers choose us

  • Fixed prices from your photos
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Same prices wherever you are
  • Nothing taken out or refitted

Take a look at our prices page.

What bath resealing costs

There is no charge for travel to Kelsale. The price comes down to:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The type of damage
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Doing more than one item at once

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Quotes from your pictures

When you take your pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

Repairs by material

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

Honest limits

We won’t take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • A flexing bath
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone
  • Hidden water damage

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

Should I try a DIY kit first?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Your questions about bath resealing in Kelsale

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

Do you seal over the old sealant?

No, we never seal over old silicone. The old sealant is cut out and the joint cleaned and dried.

Why does mould come back so fast?

Damp is the cause. Ventilation and drying keep it clean longer.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses.

How long does a reseal take?

Most reseals take about two hours. Leave it to cure before use.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Typically, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

The process

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. Protection goes down first, then the work takes around two hours. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Advice

Aftercare tips

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Let steam out after showers
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers

Good ventilation is the best protection, and wipe the joints after use.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. An early reseal keeps water where it belongs.
