Bath resealing for Kilmuir homes

Bath resealing in Kilmuir without replacing anything

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. Fresh sealant doesn’t stick to old, which is why many DIY jobs peel. Typical jobs include silicone smeared on tiles and gaps by the taps, on wet rooms, shower trays & enclosures and kitchen worktops & sinks.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Kilmuir questions

Do you cover Kilmuir?

Yes. We work across the UK and travel to Kilmuir. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

How do I stop mould in sealant?

Normally poor ventilation and moisture sitting on the joint. We use mould-resistant silicone, and ventilation helps it last.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Just keep them out of the work area. We’ll tell you when the room can be used again.

How long does resealing take?

Around two hours for a bath, then it needs to cure.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Movement is the usual cause. We seal baths full of water.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first.

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Repairs by material

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

Why it’s worth resealing in Kilmuir

A professional reseal costs little compared with water damage. It’s a quick job that protects your walls and floors. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

How to care for the repair

Aftercare is simple:

  • Let steam out after showers
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Keep bottles off the joints

Don’t scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Do not wait until water gets behind the bath. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

Can I fix it myself?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

What happens on the day

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can stay at home while we are there. We protect the area first, then the work takes around two hours. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. We run a continuous bead of new silicone.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.
