Bath resealing at your home in Little Hayfield

A proper reseal starts with removing every trace of the old silicone. Fresh sealant doesn’t stick to old, which is why many DIY jobs peel. Our technicians work on basins & vanity units, wet rooms and baths, and common reasons people contact us are water getting behind the bath or tray and missing sealant behind the taps.

Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we will explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Mould needs moisture. Run the fan, dry the joints and the new seal stays cleaner for longer.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

How long does a reseal take?

A bath or shower generally takes a couple of hours. Leave it to cure before use.

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Ventilate the bathroom well

Keep the room well ventilated, and dry the joints after bathing to keep mould away.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. There may be more going on, and we will say if you need a builder or plumber.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

When a repair is not the answer

A repair is not right for every job, including:

  • Hollow or loose tiles
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • A flexing bath

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units

Is resealing worth it?

Resealing is routine maintenance. Leaving split or mouldy sealant can let water reach the walls and floor, and that damage costs much more to fix. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

What happens on the day

Once we’re through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes a couple of hours, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. The joint is dried thoroughly.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, taps included.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

DIY repairs versus a professional job

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.
