Bath resealing in Marr

Bath resealing in Marr, done in place

Resealing is one of the simplest ways to protect your bathroom. Old, split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, and resealing puts a stop to that. If you are dealing with gaps in the seal and water getting behind the bath or tray, we can usually put it right, whatever the material.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once we have gone.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, once the joint is completely dry.

Common problems we fix in Marr

Sealant doesn’t last forever. Each shower leaves moisture and soap behind, which mould loves, and the joint moves slightly every time the bath is filled.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Stained silicone
  • Sealant that’s split or lifting
  • An untidy old seal
  • Water getting behind the bath or tray

Choosing a repair company

What a repair can’t fix

We would rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What we work on

  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms

What we do, step by step

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so there are no surprises. Then the area is sheeted and masked and the work begins. You can expect it to take around two hours, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. We run a continuous bead of new silicone.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Resealing in Marr: why it matters

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. A proper reseal removes the old first. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

Questions from Marr

Will you leave a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

What do you need from me?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787.

How long will it take?

A bath or shower usually takes a couple of hours. It then needs time to cure.

Can pets and children be at home?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, so the repair isn’t disturbed while it cures.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit usually costs less than separate visits. Include pictures of each item.

What does bath resealing cost?

We give a fixed quote from your pictures. Send a close-up and a photo of the entire item and your postcode.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Keeping it looking good

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep the joints dry
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Open a window after bathing

Good ventilation is the best protection, and wipe the joints after use.

Reseal before water gets in. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Work for landlords and builders

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.
